I still love the trackpoint and use it almost exclusively if the notebook is not connected on the docking station.

It is just awesome if you can control the mouse while still keeping the hands on the middle of the keyboard.
It’s so much faster than to kove up and down and also more ergonomic, especially in the train when the laptop sits on my lap.
The middle button enables easy scrolling on webpages (although the vim browser extention makes it even easier ther) or documents…

Nothing else I used was able to beat this setup. And I used a lot of different devices over the tome

Yes the fines are not high enough. IMHO there should be two payments: a return of all earnings which are related to the violation PLUS a hefty fine and/or jail for the executives

That’s the only way it isn’t cost efficient for the big companies to ignore the laws. Also, make sure the fines are actually paid in full and in a reasonable amount of time

Probably something to do with the MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) based on that you can calculate how long your stuff lasts and how you should schedule repairs, or in that case, how long you can provide warranty. I’d be intetested in the numbers for the jump from 8 -> 15, too

Since most budgeting tools I found didn’t satisfy my need (no cloud, automatic categorization of transactions etc.) I tried to create my own tool to categorize my transactions using camt.053 and csv files which I downloaded from my banks. Got bugged down with the presentation via bokeh, so it was pretty crude.

I recently found beancount in combination with fava, which solved most of my problems I had with my own tool. And the good thing: I was able to re-use most of my ‘auto-categorization’ code with only small changes. Not sure how universal my importer is, but with a bit of python know-how it should be quite easy to create an importer for your specific bank export.

From my experience, the csvs I got from my bank was insufficient for automatic mapping, which is why I’m using camt.053 where possible. As the camt.053 is not very common in many countries you could go for OFX files.

PlantUML-Server: Github / Docker Hub I do use some plantuml graphics in my Obsidian notes to document my network setup. And it’s really nice to have a self hosted renderer where all my devices can access it.

• webp (2,2 MB): ✅ (was even animated)

Yeah, that’s how they are named, my experience showed that the devices used whichever of the two they wanted.

Also, there’s usually no reason as a user to pay monthly for a feature in a self-hosted application.
The Dev has no monthly costs for that feature. Let me buy the application/feature, and if you need money for a new feature, create a feature that is worth buying again. No need to bully the user into a monthly subscription…

Yep, got the same experience as you. Not with nvidia drivers bit my huawei laptop had a broken audio driver where only half of the speakers worked… Unless you plugges in a headphone… Then the headphone and the other half of the speakers worked… All in all, it took me at least a da to get that working

You can do a lot with opensource and tailor it to your need, but you have to invest a lot of time… And that’s what a lot of people don’t have

It still might help if you point it out to the orginsator… Especially if you makebit clear to them that their copyrighted slides, etc. will be part of that aswell

Also, most banks (and other service provider) add additional fees for counter service, since you can do it online…

The issue has to do something google did and now there seem to be auth issues. The authors of microG don’t want to fiy it, as the ReVanced isecase is not exactly what they made their service for.

The problem with ads is not a few ads here and there, it’s how it negatively impacts every interaction with those sites:

• ads that load in later than the rest of the page, because they first need to finish the auction of who gets to show their ads… And bam I again missklicked the link because the whole fucking page got shiftet down a notch
• needing a short guide how to do something? Yeah first look at these five (5!) ads which are longer than the guide you want to watch, except… The freaking algorithm favors long videos, so the 30 second guides get padded to over 10min…(with more ads inbetween)
• these ads we show you, yeah they might contain some java script… So you screen them, correct?.. Nonono, we can’t do that at this scale!
• hey google where can I download this free tool?.. Here is a list with download links… Ehh, the first five are ads and lead to some crazy scam site. Don’t you check what you deliver as ads.?.. Nonono we can’t do that at this scale
• look at this ad for this shady mobile again for the 25ths time today… But youtube that game doesn’t look at all like in this ad!.. Thanks for your report… Here’s the same fucking ad again!

There was also a report recently that google also screwed their customers (those companies who pay for the ads) where google showed ads as in-stream ads in some auto-running videos in the background.

The whole industey is just broken. Present me with non-intrusive, static ads served from your own site and nobody bats an eye (also ad blockers are a non-issue then)
