When replacing big services you’re not going to find a single solution. You will probably find several smaller solutions that all specialize in one or two things.
What if you had OBS create a “camera” of your screen, and then use that through video chat?
Extras are something I miss from modern movie distribution.
After finishing a movie you could watch the deleted scenes and behind the scenes and such. I rarely did the commentary watch of the movie but it was cool that it was there.

I’ll second moshidon. It gets bonus points for letting you see your followed hashtags. Or something like that. There’s something with hashtags that you can’t do in the web browser that you can do with apps. Moshidon does that thing.

Would you say there are distinct advantages to self hosting an RSS reader? Most of the time when im browsing sites and reading it’s on my phone, not my desktop.
Photopea is great, but after a certain point it begins to chug. Once you have a dozen or so groups and begin to stack adjustment layers peefomance suffers. A dedicated desktop app just has more power to swing around.
It’s going to take some time to get as proficient in krita or GIMP.
Photoshop and stable nvidia drivers.
I like how Vesktop updates in the background. Discord proper has to close, download the .deb, install, and relaunch.
On Lemmy you feel like your voice is heard more because it’s smaller, IMO.
Alright, I think I may have found my solution.
So it’s a workaround. It’s essentially finding a way to make the “new” stuff feel like the old stuff, but as an added benefit, I get all the functionality that the new stuff offers.
