It’s the size really. As with most social media platforms, often they are fairly easy to create (YouTube definitely isn’t, but many could). Problem is that it’s impossible to compete with, because people expect the activity you get from hundreds of millions of users.

Same goes for Twitter, Reddit and whatnot. Since capitalism took over the internet completely, basically none of the large plattforms have been outcompeted really.

To big to fail isn’t the banks nowadays, well then to, but it’s IT as well.

50% is decent, if it had any idea of when it actually was correct or not. But 50% is not very good, when the 50% that’s faulty, results in it going of on a long tangent spewing lies. Lies that are incredibly real looking, takes immense knowledge or huge amounts of time to check.

If you’re well versed enough in the subject to spot the lies, you likely wont get much help from AI. And if you aren’t, well, you’re going to be learning a lot of incorrect information. Or spend ridiculous amount of times fact checking.

Works a bit like that for software developing at the moment. AI is incredibly at spewing out code quickly. But the time won by copying it, is lost looking for errors that are extremely well hidden.

What’s worrying is social media being politicised. There was a time when it was not, and it was hell of a lot better than what we have now.

I’m not on Bluesky because it aligns with my political views. I’m there because I do not have to look at, or engage in politics. I can speak about my interests. Really quite lovely.

When I was a junior about 95% of my days was writing code. Nowadays? 30-40% maybe. The rest is meetings, code-review, helping colleagues that calls me among other things.

Good luck finding that Mr Algorithm. Commit history is basically useless due to another factor as well. For bugs - finding the actual problem and the reason for it, is often far more consuming than the fix itself.

And that’s after you’ve located and understood the problem. That part is often far more complicated and time consuming than the fix itself.

People are quick to jump on for profit companies that do everything in their power to earn a buck. Well, here you have a company that fires their CEO for going too much in the direction of earning money.

There will always be loop holes, but then you fix those. And regardless, loop holes are not used by all, and they take time to find. So that’s no reason not to do it.

I mean most top searches are AI generated bullshit nowadays anyway. Adding Reddit to a search is basically the only decent way to get a proper answer. But those answers are not much more reliable than ChatGPT. You have to use the same sort of skepticism and fact checking regardless.

Google has really gotten horrible over the years.

Well there is, if you wish for apps created by others than large corporations with hundreds or thousands of developers. It will get better with time now when progress is slower.

But phones 10 years ago were absolutely trash compared to those we have today.

I feel like the jury’s still out a bit. We had some insane development during July, then it steadily dropped off. Lots of decent apps, but not many being updated during the last month.

And they aren’t really in that good of a state, still many kinks to iron out.

For me “it just works” is much more about the OS. Sending files between my Apple devices in high quality within seconds without internet, browsers and files syncing, having my Airpods switch from phone to Apple TV with the press of a button/automatically, face-id not failing 50% of the time, the watch works when I speak to it and does what I want it to.

These are by no means crazy and things, but I struggle daily at work with my none Apple headset, the windows computer, my android phone. It just “does not work” smoothly. And they all sync horribly with each other for some reason. Files are not easily shared I often end up having to email myself, my headset that cost $400 lives it own life, features are automatically turned on again and again by themselves, for some reason. I have to restart my Microsoft IDE at least 10 times a day. Stuff like that.

You do not get all the features, that’s for sure. But you get less friction. I think that’s what most are getting at with it just works. Less friction.

I mean it’s obviously not news, news. It’s marketing. Most people just don’t care about latency on a product, especially when it’s for use with another - not even released product. What do you expect?

That it just works does not mean I’m bound to Apple apps only. It just works includes having fantastic third party apps that do the job when Apples are lacking.

Calendar, mail, maps, music, password manager and the likes are such for me. But it still “just works”.

Missing features at OS level is one thing. But missing features in a goddamn app, when there are alternatives? Common…

I mean their events are literally held to give news about updates. Revolutionary or not.

Why would they not mention stuff people could make use of, just because it’s not some amazing new things.

Events are rather decent to be honest, no that I look at them. But people do, so it’s very easy to get an overview over upcoming features.
