Capitalism: we have the best innovation, don’t we folks?
You can totally turn it off in a couple clicks or leave it on if you want it. Other tech companies take note, this is how you do it.
Every Texan I know has a generator to deal with the unreliability of the grid, and there’s never been an article about someone in Iowa getting a surprise $100k electric bill…and the average wage in Texas is substantially lower than in “left wing” states like California or Washington…so not sure you’re making an apples-to-apples comparison, but time will be the judge, we can all check-in in a year and see how this plays out. Does Lemmy have a remind me! bot?
The one state that refuses to connect to the interstate power grid and has Uber-like surge pricing on electricity? Yeah, I’m sure this won’t result in regular people footing the bill for more billionaire profits.
Texas is a joke, but not a good one.
Installed Bazzite this weekend, most the games I’ve tested run fine and the OS is quite pretty. Microsoft forcing everyone to Spware OS after Steam released several versions or Proton are the one-two punch that will help tons of people move to Linux. 🐧
Lootbox gambling is a cancer…extra cancer points for aiming it at kids…and wow, that revenue split is insane, no wonder Roblox is such a rich, publicly traded company. Sigh.
Just what’s in it by default:
For anyone who doesn’t already know the good FOSS alternatives:
I love Fish

What the heck. Half a billion in microtransactions for a game that (according to this article) sounds like a real turd of a user experience. I loved GTA 3 and Vice City back in the day…I got GTA 4 in a Humble Bundle, haven’t spent much time with it yet. Anyone know if it’s a decent experience for a solo, offline, lootbox-free experience?
As an old person who only kinda knew that lootboxes exist, this series was a huge eye opener to the insane amount of money and industry that has emerged around them. 10/10 would recommend to my fellow olds.
Now to head back to Bioshock where the only cost to looting boxes is that I might get attacked by a splicer.
Probably preaching to the choir on Lemmy but…reminder to boycott Facebook and Instagram.
Wow, this looks really cool! I see a reddit icon on there, but not a Lemmy one…is Lemmy support coming?

The more LLMs get exposed to data, the more they get exposed to wrong data. There’s also a vicious cycle problem that once LLMs spit out bad information, that bad information gets incorporated into LLMs new data sets, which makes them more wrong, so on and so forth.
Yeah, Mailspring is what I use currently, but the sidebar pretty much just shows the list of e-mails, no other data, but it is the best of what I’ve found on my own.
Microsoft is like a super clingy ex.
Mostly. The runtime fee now only kicks in after $1 mil, and you are limited to a 4% cap, and they are honoring the old EULAs, so if you want to avoid the fee, you just stay on the current version of Unity. They can still eat my farts, but this is much better and won’t kill a bunch of games the way it would have before.

I’m a year into developing my first game though and this means I don’t have to abandon all the progress I’ve made. After I publish this game, all bets are off as to where I go…or should I say where I godot.
Seriously, tech enshittiffication is feeling all too familiar.
Need X-kill replacement.
