A mainstream fairly well funded sequel to a cult classic owned by a company that has yet to develop anything even close to the same quality as a janky pre-release third-party source game that has switched developers at least once now?
…I’m sure it will be fine, it’s not like there’s at least two other examples of that exact scenario failing miserably.
I think you’re vastly underestimating how cheap most computers are; consumer laptops are around $300-500 median, that’s what most people use. And those laptops don’t game. The enthusiast computer market, while larger than its ever been, is still a ridiculously small percentage of computers sold.
archinstall comes by default on medium now; there’s also archfi and about a dozen other install scripts with varying levels of customization, interactivity, and ease of use. All of which are better options than wiki installation.
Luckily there’s one mainstream and about a half dozen non-mainstream mobile OSes besides Apple, and almost anyone looking for the best in anything would not have Apple hardware in the first place.
This is a serious problem I think isn’t actually talked about enough. There is a ‘ring of trust’ on most social media now that in my opinion goes far too far; if you don’t have enough algorithmically determined ‘trust,’ you’ll be booted off without a way to appeal. Reddit shadowbans the vast majority of new accounts, but hasn’t been able to cut down on spambots; Facebook by its nature needs ridiculous amounts of personal information but even then doesn’t actually use it to assign more trust since bot-owners can supply generated information that’s equally as valid; really all social media, especially if you do anything at all to protect your privacy, assumes you’re a spambot first, then only lets you participate after you prove beyond a shadow of a doubt you might be a human. I understand we’re already half way into developing a dead internet, but there’s no reason we need to go full throttle into it by limiting actual humans from signing up past a certain point in a product’s lifespan.
I actually have tried to use reddit multiple times, however they’ve soft-disabled most new accounts. It’s around a 50% chance in my experience if your account is shadowbanned immediately, with a slightly lower chance it’ll be shadowbanned within a week, regardless of what you post. If you use a privacy-focused email provider or use a vpn, or use a browser that is resistant to fingerprinting, you’re basically persona non-grata at reddit. Which is honestly fine with me at this point, half of all content you encounter in almost any major sub is either bot posted or “totally a legitimate user that uses the site 24/7” posted.
