I’ll always ensure to be consistent on either side - which is something the BBC didn’t do recently. Making me wonder if it was their mistake or mine.

I believe that’s correct. And as others have pointed out this is likely an anti-scalping measure which changes my view on it.

Probably, yeah. I made new accounts often but my oldest would probably have been 2010. But I’ve given up once I found lemmy aside from occasionally going back to help people come over when I know reddit has further agitated its existing base.

No, instance A sees no comments/posts by instance B users regardless of if it’s on instance C.
For example, Beehaw defederated my instance.
They could be commenting all through this thread and I’d never know.
Edit: okay technically not here because they defederated LW too.
Edit2: so to be clear, if your instance defederated/blocked dot ml then they wouldn’t be able to interact with your content at all, votes, posts, anything.
But here unfavourable admins don’t run the whole show. On reddit if you didn’t like the admins you’re out of luck entirely. Here they only control one slice of the pie.
There’s definitely more I’ve accumulated over the past couple years but those two come to mind first. There is also a tool that automates the new community federation process here if your admins participate.
