I know at least Firefox and Signal do the same. I don’t see why it should be changed, since pinching and double tapping are also supported. Although, the zoom on double tap is indeed way too strong.

Agreed. While I love apps supporting my native language, I hate seeing half-translated things. So I usually use English until localization is complete. Additionally figuring out how things work can often be easier in English first (matching terms in troubleshooting and guides).
