Back when I was still on Reddit I remember someone sharing a job posting calling for 10 years of experience in a 5 year old language. I don’t know if it was real or not but it’s typical of the crazy requirements for those jobs.

For the case of your job or school you either use what is required or you need to find another job or school. That might not be popular but it’s the reality. Other relationships don’t have that kind of pull. Maybe RCS could fix some of it but given what happened with XMPP I’m doubtful.
As the only Android user in a social group of iPhone users I felt this way too much.
The only one that is difficult to replace is Facebook. It’s still the best way to keep up with family and friends from all over. I also like Facebook Marketplace and haven’t found a substitute that is as good.
Is this sucking up or just finally feeling free to show their true self?
It’s not just younger people. A lot of my fellow GenXers only communicate via Facebook messenger.
Same for me. I got DSL in the summer of 2000.
I agree that manned space programs are unnecessary and unmanned should be very limited. Starlink shouldn’t have been allowed. Unfortunately the US government let telecoms off the hook when it came to serving rural areas.
That’s because tech peaked a while back. Tech news is basically about the next hustle to keep the funding coming in while producing nothing truly useful.
I never tweeted myself but I liked to follow a couple of local news outlets and out local government agencies for public notices and emergencies. I gave up when stuff from Elon and a bunch of right wing stuff populated my feed. I rarely saw anything of interest. I started using Facebook for that. At least the local stuff pops up in addition to the crazy stuff.
Ageeed I’ll never do it again.
I really don’t understand the hype about AI in it’s current state.
Agreed. M is definitely the sweet spot for tech right now.
I’ve never heard of pigeon management but I have heard something similar described as playing chess with a pigeon as someone who “knocks all the pieces over, shits on the board then struts aroind like they’ve won”.
So would I but good luck getting your average local sheriff or office of emergency preparedness to use RSS. Most of their “IT” staff is the deputy who is “good with computers” meaning they can open a PDF file.
It’s a shame because Twitter is a perfect platform for the kind of one-way communications required by a news agency or local government agency. Maybe Mastodon or Bluesky will fill that void.
It’s only fair.
I think the focus on bots was primarily used in an attempt to back out of the deal. It was never an issue, especially if it inflated his ego by pumping up his account.
I was never active in terms of posting but I followed several news outlets, local government agencies, and a few friends. Shortly after Musk took over I saw nothing but right wing nutjobs and a lot of posts from Musk. I tried unfollowing but nothing worked so I quit logging in. I need to cancel my account but haven’t taken the time.
That’s probably what happened. However the job description as written was kind of silly.
