I just want an EV that has the basic features like push buttons, heating/cooling, cargo space for my tools and shit which should be easier without the engine… I don’t want much, heck even power windows are even optional here. I’ll take manual.
But it needs to be priced at “this is a basic model with 90s features”.
I don’t want 15 touch screens and Bluetooth doors. I don’t want a massive landship rivaling ww1 tanks in size. Ideally I’d want a train to replace the nearby highway, and then I could walk to and from work and wheel my tools on a cart.
For $4,000,000,014, I’ll make you one that goes to 12G.
“what non piracy reasons are there”
“If you have nothing to hide then what’s the problem with putting a camera in the bathroom. What non crime reasons could there be?”
Really though, if you’re technically proficient enough for torrenting and vpns, you’re proficient enough to convert to newer formats, too.
So even then, it’s really just not that big a deal. Other than being a once-used format for the platform. And honestly how many devices are still functioning that can only use mobi? Heck I have a 10 year old Kindle somewhere that probably has 4 or 5 different formats from about 10 different sources.
People are a bit nicer in general here, I think, although certain niche subreddit were far more welcoming to newcomers.
I’ve only had two people on lemmy so far tell me my thoughts are stupid without bothering to explain why they feel this way, and only one person has assumed they know my life from a single comment. (homer_so_far.gif)
I have yet to see a single interaction where someone has changed someone else’s mind in an amicable and polite way with both thanking each other for their time though.
I tend to focus less on news post comments though. Someone calling me an idiot because I don’t blindly support something or someone doesn’t phase me.
Someone breaking down my comment about why Picard is a better starfleet captain than Commander Sisko and giving me reasons why I’m stupid for thinking that? That’ll stay with me for a few days.
Perhaps I just don’t interact unless it seems like the general vibe agrees with me, and therefore people are more likely to be nice, because I don’t like rejection and mean comments are just different kinds of rejection, so I hide in places I know will like me.
0 reason to interact when you know there’s a good chance you will come out unhappy, I get it.
Woot! I’m more of a lurker but I comment occasionally (not necessarily smart or informed as they should be ones) and I would love to post in recreations of some of my favorite niche places, but running them is quite an investment…
I’m pumped I can still see star trek memes though.
As a planet, we can afford to house, feed, and clothe everyone on the planet.
We choose not to because that would be “too hard”
Sure, I don’t expect 20 people to go around and do that sort of thing solo, but damn we could all just do 1/6,200,000,000th of a thing.

I vaguely remember reading an article where the gist of if was “musk is busy with other businesses, SpaceX engineers can work unhindered by stupid questions and requirements” and their source was someone who works for SpaceX.
With other people who didn’t read past the title agreeing despite literally saying “I did not read any of the articles but here’s my opinion”
Not relevant to the discussion, and Readily admitting I have no idea how tax laws work.
Every time I hear “for accounting purposes…” what my brain replaces it with is “we commit fraud! Here’s how…” mostly as a joke, but sometimes I wonder how true it really is.
To be clear I’m not trying to imply anything about your job lol just think it’s funny
You do have a point there. But I have a very poor view of companies and their data breaches, so I’m certainly biased.
Two years is nothing. It’s literally a pittance in order to silence to plebs.
My data got stolen from the DOD in 2015, and I still have identity theft protection from it, and STILL have issues pop up every year. Without the last 8 years of protection, I’d be completely fucked.
Them not getting easily hacked =/= your data is safe in their hands.
3 MONTHS MANDATORY CUSTOMER SERVICE AT VARIOUS STORES EVERY YEAR
doesn’t have to be all at once, but it DOES have to equal 3 months. And they have to get high customer satisfaction surveys like everyone else
And if you support my bid for president, I will require every business over 50 employees to have a corporate office in every state they do business in (two on the extra large ones) , so no matter where you live, you can yell at someone face to face instead of into a phone with nobody listening.
That’s it. That’s my whole platform. No plans, just this.
The only reason we don’t have mechanized suits fighting in a titanium octagon is the cost vastly outweighs the potential income.
It’s entirely possible, entirely impractical, and while it looks super fucking cool to have a small mech suit you can walk around in, the cost will make any damages prohibitively expensive.
So basically right now it’s nothing more than a toy, and ultimately it’s not really trying to be. It’s not a demo, and “proof of concept” is even pushing it. Like you said, the designers said basically the same thing.
It’s basically telling a WWE fan that the whole thing isn’t real and the wrestlers drama stories aren’t true. They know. They don’t care. It’s entertainment for entertainments’ sake.
We know it’s not practical… But come on… points gundam suit.
