I’d just like to interject for a moment. What you’re refering to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called Linux, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called Linux distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux!

i dont really know about laptops but maybe get a used or refurbished one?
at least two people around me buyed refurbished ones and had no problem

It is better when lemmy users who know the ground can test the server a bit before it gets DDOSed with some reddit users who dont know anything and get raged

Like an beta and alpha phase for finding bugs and testing as much as possible out before the offendable users get confronted with it

I remember that the website had first that new posts pop up at the top so a user dont have to reload the page, but made with the influx of people /new very unusable because after seeing something cool i had to follow it every few seconds or open it in a new tab

the more i read here the more i wish that you simply message the mods in private and give them stuff like the instance name.
They have NO reason to dox you.
From what i got you guessed the issue by testing around on YOUR side. You dont know anything about their side so you cant 100% identify the problem.
If you want to have the conversations outside of Lemmy i am sure that they would accept if you create a throw away matrix account and talk over this.

The issue you have others could have too and if you are not able to talk about it with others could have propblems too.
I mean it could be some weird bug that no one else discovered so far.

What would really help if you speak with the other devs, only talk about facts (not assumptions based on facts, that are still assumptions), stay calm and hydrated

Some apps have a word filter you could use. What i learned from this post is that i will make a donation to the researchers when i can afford it

the main problem with this is that with them doing it without asking or time to prepare all the people the guy knew where lost or have a problem finding him.
And the huy was seemingly not even a nobody but instead had a company so even more company contacts could get lost or customers wanting to directly reach out to him could sent private data to a 3 party (twitter) about confidential informations.

Secondly it says that the company can and will take over accounts when they have some reason, even if it is only the name.
That means the trust in the handle gets completly broken because it could be a twitter account in just a few seconds without warning.
So they have the power to take over an official governement or news account without warning and only leaving a reason. This is theoretical but if there is a news station with a handle like “xnews” i can really expect that it gets taken over in some time in the future.

But then likely only the musk fanbase and maybe a few confused are the only left
