The article says it won’t affect existing free subreddits. It’s also worth pointing out that Reddit Lounge (a subreddit exclusive to Reddit premium members) has been a thing for a long time. So really, this probably isn’t that big of a deal, Reddits most profitable asset is its huge user base and I don’t think they’re dumb enough to torpedo it. Then again, look at what happened to tumblr, you never know…
I only use bluesky to follow a couple of ukraine war news accounts. It’s very good for that purpose. I don’t interact at all or read comments, twitter was always an absolute cesspool and I assume bkuesky is as well, or will be if it ever replaces twitter

Look if companies could implement successful anticheat without kernel access they sure as hell would, regardless of cost or effort. There is a TON of money to be made in competitive fps games alone, and they’re pretty much all overrun by hackers
Yeah I’ve only ever found 1 game play chann on YouTube that I enjoy watching, Macie Jay who makes compilations of his stream for YouTube. He’s incredibly creative playing R6, it’s really fun to watch. But in general I don’t get watching someone play a game when I could just play it myself.

Idk the webpage doesn’t load, or i get some kind of weird error, or it seems to load but the persons profile shows they have no posts. Refreshing after a minute usually fixes it. But bluesky always loads faster in FF mobile and it seems much more reliable.
I never post, but I do follow a couple of channels on bluesky and mastodon. Bluesky always just works. Mastodon breaks all the freaking time.
There’s plenty of precedent for that though. HSA money, personal mobile device usage, credit for using mass transit… they are compensating specific things. Food is a bit odd to be honest; I’m not sure why they don’t just pay you cash.

I had the same experience: I played DS1 almost completely blind (I’d seen my old roommates playing it years ago so I knew some of the tricks, in a half-remembered sort of way). It was hard, and I got stuck in a few places for a really long time but wow it was extremely rewarding. Anyways I’m not that good at videogames, if you’re persistent pretty much anyone can beat dark souls 1 I think
It’s also just part of a wider internet trend I think. More and more games and social media have them. Developers are getting better and better at hacking people’s attention and reward pathways. For Duolingo I think it’s fun, because learning a language is a fun and productive thing to do anyways (and despite the hate it has really worked well for me) but for games and things like social media or whatever I just find it annoying.

No I get that, but this is different honestly. Look up rates of teenage depression/anxiety/suicide attempts, it’s a stunning correlation with the advent of smartphones and social media. Millenials got out just in time.
