Have you not been paying attention to AI over the last year? It can easily go beyond just translating word for word. This isn’t Google Translate anymore.
The fuck is a distro? Linux bros can’t say a single sentence about how “easy” Linux is without using some terminology that proves it would actually take quite a bit of research for someone unfamiliar to make the switch. People don’t want to do that. They want an OS that works without having to take a mini CS course.
You really don’t seem to understand how big the gap is. The things you think are easy or intuitive are far from it. Most people can’t even figure out how to download something from GitHub, and you think Linux is right for them?
I wish more websites allowed random words as passwords instead of forcing numbers and special characters (but not THAT special character, you have to use one of the ones on this list).
People change their passwords by one letter or digit because they’re tied to these restrictive formats. If 5-6 random words was the norm, people would update more than just one character when needing to change passwords.
“poison navy series ruler handshake papaya” is a fantastic password.
“Ilovemygrandkids!123” is a horrible password.
So your faster and easier solution is to download an app for something I may need only once?
Cool.
No, I mean for everyone saying that streaming white noise is a waste of bandwidth and resources, what exactly is an easier or faster way of getting white noise than just searching for it on something like Spotify?
What is the best and fastest way to generate white noise from your computer?
But if you don’t pre-order, they might run out of digital copies! /s
Yep. Some executive sent out an order that they have to make some sort of response. This was done to appease them, not the public.

It is technically a movie, sure. But more accurately, it’s the conclusion to a show that’s been on the air for almost 20 years. It’s not a movie made to stand on it’s own. Posting it to a movie sub makes as much sense as posting about ancient Roman senators in a politics sub. It’s technically politics, but you’re not going to get very meaningful discussion because it’s not what people go there for. The only people who would watch this movie are fans of the show, and even if a non-fan watched it, why would I give a shit about their opinion of it? They aren’t going to get it.
Are you starting to see the issue?
Lemmy is getting there but it’s still not a great replacement, especially when it comes to niche topics. For example, the Venture Bros movie came out recently and I wanted to discuss it with other fans, but there’s no place on lemmy for that; or if there is, I have been unable to find it. Meanwhile the Venture Bros subreddit has 3 different megathreads. I’m keeping my reddit account around for things like that until lemmy grows a bit more.
I thought China already accomplished this last year?
It’s funny how if you browse lemmy, you might be under the impression that Linux is some huge portion of the market share of OS’s.
You know, rather than the reality which is less than 3% of users due to most people just wanting an OS that works without having to have a CS degree.
Ah a cutscene. Let me put my controller down, grab my drink an-
“PUSH ‘A’, MOTHERFUCKER! DO IT NOW! DO IT! Aww, you fucked it up. Way to go idiot! Why did you think you could relax for even a moment?”
Sounds like you’d love and hate Phoenix Wright.
Let me give you a hypothetical that’s close to reality. Say an artist gets very popular, but doesn’t want their art used to teach AI. Let’s even say there’s even legislation that prevents all this artist’s work from being used in AI.
Now what if someone else hires a bunch of cheap human artists to produce works in a style similar to the original artist, and then uses those works to feed the AI model? Would that still be stolen art? And if so, why? And if not, what is this extra degree of separation changing? The original artist is still not getting paid and the AI is still producing works based on their style.
And what if the human running the AI likes one of these “mistakes” and tells the AI to run with it?

I work in a manufacturing company that was owned by the founder for 50 years until about 4 years ago when he retired. He disagreed with a lot of the ideas behind lean manufacturing so we had like 5 years worth of inventory sitting in our warehouse.
When the new management came in, there was a lot of squawking about inefficiency, how wasteful it was to keep so much raw material on the shelf, and how we absolutely needed to sell it off or get rid of it.
Then a funny little thing happened in 2020.
Suddenly, we were the only company in our industry still churning out product. Other companies were calling us, desperate to buy our products or even just our raw material. We saw MASSIVE growth the next two years and came out of the pandemic better than ever. And it was mostly thanks to the old owners view that “Just In Time” manufacturing was BS.
