Yeah I didn’t believe that amount, looked it up, and it looks like digital W11 Home keys are $139 USD directly from Microsoft.
I’m surprised manufacturers aren’t getting some sort of license discount.
Physical copies if they are made outside the US, digital no iirc
I think the $450 USD was just keeping up with inflation.
$300 in March 2017 when the switch originally launched is equivalent to almost $400 today ($392 and some change). S2 is launching at $450, if they were only expecting 15%-ish tariffs then maybe, but it should then be cheaper outside of the US if tariffs were the only reason. Electronic component prices have gone up beyond inflation growth, I think it would be easier to blame it on that.
$80-90 games before tariffs sucks, but games have been $60 for as long as I can remember, and they’re only getting more expensive to make.
I’ve also had no issues with Teams and haven’t had coworkers with issues in probably six years. I prefer it significantly over Slack, and my first job was using IBM/Lotus Notes before they switched to teams, that was a clunky nightmare.
My first SWE job out of college in 2019 they were still using SVN because none of the seniors could be bothered to learn how to use git.
The “well this is how we’ve always done it” attitude had a death grip on that place
This kill switch, the DOJ said, appeared to have been created by Lu because it was named “IsDLEnabledinAD,” which is an apparent abbreviation of “Is Davis Lu enabled in Active Directory.”
Lu named these codes using the Japanese word for destruction, “Hakai,” and the Chinese word for lethargy, “HunShui,”
[Lu]’s “disappointed” in the jury’s verdict and plans to appeal
No, this guy is cooked, there’s even evidence of him looking up how to hide processes and quickly delete files, absolutely no way an appeal would work out for him, I don’t think an “I got hacked” argument is going to work.
I wonder how moderating would work in a merged community, would mods not from instance X only be able to hide a post from that instance from the merged community, or would they have power to remove a post from another instance? I’d imagine that is one of the hiccups of a feature like this, it is a shame it has been collecting dust though
Edit: re-read the issue, now I understand it would be more of a multi Reddit than a merged community, so mods would only have the power for their own instance/community it sounds like
Always cool to see companies opening up safety features to the benefit of everyone
I have some friends working on EV fire suppression at another company and they said it’s a cool idea, but in practice is difficult for firefighters to reach. Renault’s is specifically under the back seat, how easy is it going to be to open up a car, potentially move a seat, and connect a hose during a big battery fire?
From what I understand, it isn’t fully drag and drop yet, it took a long time to get it tweaked to work perfectly with Sonic Unleashed, and, as the tool is now, would require similar work for other games, but it’s a huge milestone
The title is misleading, they’re removing the ability to download and transfer from the Amazon side
I have been using scheduled do not disturb for over a decade, it makes SUCH a difference. I always have it on 10 PM - 7 AM, and I have started enabling it for an hour if work picks up or if I’m at the gym so I can focus.
My work phone is on DND more than not, I’m available 7:30 AM - 5 PM on weekdays and it is in DND otherwise, super nice.
iOS also has a nice feature where if you get called by the same number twice in a short period of time it will let the second call through.
The pessimist in me knows it’s just a matter of time until robo callers figure that one out and start double calling, but it is nice peace of mind for now.
Because I still think the safety and convenience for my family and I outweighs the privacy impact, it’s a camera pointed at a public street.
I got a Eufy doorbell cam years ago because you can do local storage, but I think in 2022 or 23 they were called out for not being fully encrypted, iirc it was the thumbnails for push notifications that weren’t being properly encrypted.
And that somehow also turned into a realization that Eufy was using those thumbnails to build a facial database because each face had a unique ID in the metadata.
I should really switch away but haven’t had the money, hopefully soon.
Really cool, but really scary, all I see is facial biometrics from 1 km away.
iOS, unfortunately, but thank you!
I think there are similar options, but I’m pretty burned out on side loading at this point after doing it with emulators for years
The view farming in shorts makes it even harder to avoid as well. Sure, I can block the JRE channel, for example, but that doesn’t stop me from getting JRE clips from probably day-old accounts which just have some shitty music thrown on top. If you can somehow block those channels, there’s new ones the next day, ad infinitum.
It’s too bad you can’t just disable the tab entirely, I feel like I get sucked in more than I should. I’ve tried browser extensions on mobile which remove the tab, but I haven’t had much luck with PiPing videos from the mobile website, so I can’t fully stop the app.
These are feeds that you have to follow, and the “algorithm” is defined by the feed creator. This isn’t BS forcing stuff on people.
They have been shilling max so hard, the practice tab now is hidden to make room for the Video Call tab (Max only) and a tab to subscribe to Max or upgrade your plan.
Probably won’t renew this year. I have a 1500+ day streak, but a good chunk of that is just doing a single quick practice lesson every day, the gamification got me and I haven’t learned much new stuff in probably a year.
I learned enough Italian to use it when I went on a two week trip in 2023, but the problem with Duo’s lessons is nothing is conversational. I would be able to say/ask something, understand the response, but then not really have the ability to keep the conversation going.
The differences in languages after so many years is also a bit disheartening, I had a friend show me all the tools available in their French course that I didn’t have, it made their Italian lessons look like vocab flash cards in comparison.
I am not a big LLM user, but I did try to use it as a conversation partner, which worked alright. I haven’t looked in a while, but my biggest issue was it would speak too fast and none of the available tools had a way to slow it down outside of telling it to add ellipses after each word.
