Glibc’s qsort will default to either insertion sort mergesort or heapsort. Quicksort itself is used when it cannot allocate extra memory for mergesort or heapsort. Insertion sort is still used in the quicksort code, when there is a final 4 items that need to be sorted.

Normally it is simply mergesort or heapsort. Why I know this? Because there was a recent CVE for quicksort and to reproduce the bug I had to force memory to be unable to be allocated with a max size item. It was interesting reading the source code.

That is if you are not on a recent version of qsort which simply removed quicksort altogether for the mergesort + heapsort

Older version still had quicksort and even some had insertion sort. Its interesting to look at all the different versions of qsort.

I run a personal dnsmasq just for dns resolving/routing. It integrates well with Networkmanager. Easy to work with and very reliable to have the DNS resolution and routing be handled by dnsmasq. Single command to reload NetworkManager which also reloads the integrated dnsmasq. I like it and it offers a lot of control for me. I hate having to use the hosts file for when I am connecting to labs via VPN with their own network. dnsmasq is way better at handling subdomains than the hosts file and it feels way more reliable than just hoping the minimal DNS routing system works properly.

Many LLM operations rely on fast memory and gpus seem to have that. Even though their memory is soldered and vbios is practically a black box that is tightly controlled. Nothing on a GPU is modular or repairable without soldering skills(and tools).

I think the biggest limiting factor for your mini PC will always be the VRAM and any workload that enjoys that fast RAM speed. Really, I think this mini PC from framework is only sensible for certain workloads. It was poised as a mobile chip and certainly is majorly power efficient. On the other hand I don’t think it is for large scaling but more for testing at home or working at home on the cheap. It isn’t something I expected from framework though as I expected them to maintain modularity and the only modularity here is the little USB cards and the 3D printed front panel designs lol

Personally I am in that niche market of high RAM speed. Also, access to high VRAM for occasional LLM testing. Though it is an AMD and I don’t know if am comfortable switching from Nvidia for that workload just yet. Renting a GPU is just barely cheap enough.

Honestly as someone who partakes in some cyber security challenges for fun, there are plenty of weird things that programmers or doc writers never ever consider but other times the docs are so barebones that it is worthless to read. And a high word count does not always mean the doc is useful when all the text is either ai generated slop, or a lot of high level ideations that don’t get into how to work it.

On the first topic, your reasoning to differentiate what the goals of competitive games and “chasing higher something” is just not well put into words here. From what I am reading, you tried to make them look different on the higher level view but failed to showcase that, which for both sides you claim one is competitive and the other side is not competitive. However, most definitions for being competitive is to chase ever higher “somethings” for which is mostly points but in other aspects can be money. Hence your reasoning has basically equated them even more deeply. So your point to make them different needs to be redone with that can make your point more clear and is reasonably opposites.

Moving on, I didn’t agree completely that playing with cash is strictly adult. More or less, anything that requires express consent, such as decisions that involve risk of self hurting activities (playing with cash is one of these activities because of our dependency on money), and other adult topics that are not relevant here. There are things that kids can buy to play games for or gain cosmetics for RP or whatever, however I understand the problem will be account selling shenanigans, but that at least raises the bar on barrier of entry too, and most not doing it. Kids need to learn to be less impulsive and I think that is more of what is the root of the problem in this case. We need regulations that would punish companies that try to exploit this.

Physical withdrawal from those drugs are miles more deadly and impactful on someone’s body and brain. at the end of the day, problems are at different views here. I find games are very similar in many aspects, such as relying heavily on RNG to make outcomes varied. If normal no cash poker is adult, then games like uno and other forms of RNG based games like rolling dice can just as much be adult from your reasoning. I am not particular to labeling games in this way.

there are many more nuances to labeling as adult oriented, such as ability to cause oneself to be worse off in life to the point that it is harmful (like losing your life savings or going into debt) or the content is sexual. that is what I would consider requirement for labeling as adult. I personally think anything that is tied with cash should be labeled as adult. yet, right now, this line is heavily blurred by microtransactions, lootboxes, cosmetics, in game currency and other ways to play with cash.

Playing with cash should be adult, but in game cash you cannot sell or buy is not something I think I can equate here because I see it as another incremental simulator kind of game, like many idle games are like now a days.

I think there are dynamics at play her but to keep it short. I admire your steadfast disappointment towards gambling or playing with odds. However, for a game like balatro being completely free to continue playing after the initial purchase. As far as I can tell, there are no micro transactions or push for players to sink their wallets into the game. The entire game is basically a simulation. All randomizations are predetermined based on a seed. You can set it or you can figure it out if you are smart enough in math and cryptography. However, ratings are more annoyance than being a real guard against the real problems happening right now.

You do realize a decade is a very short time for something at a scale this large with complex interactions that needs to be reliable, efficient and reproducible at scale. Plus long term tests take time because it is a factor to many clients to see if they can handle at least a decade.

Windows 11 “out of box experience” has been made specifically to further control and limit options in favor of value added options. Such as making online services more integrated into an ever bloated OS. The only option I know about setting up the first account as local was to disable the internet connectivity check they are enforcing now using a command prompt that required going well out of my way to get and even I saw how much they pressure you into going along with their demands/instructions instead of allowing freedom/open use of anything you wish to use.
