  • If it’s so basic, obvious, and universally agreed, then he would have been boycotted much sooner. And yeah there’s only so much time I’m gonna put into research to reply to a random Lemmy thread. He’s a piece of shit and I don’t need to look for more evidence of that - it’s not going to change my opinion or cause me to take new actions. Even if you’re right, my greater point is about how blackmail and secrets drive power. Pedophilia, Nazism, same shit from that perspective.

I know he’s not actually a founder, but he deserves credit because EV companies have been getting outplayed for decades and now we finally them. People are tools, they do what they’re paid for. Very few truly innovate or move any kind of needle anywhere.

We’ll probably never know how many lives have been saved from FSD due to drunk/tired drivers who have already made the decision to drive instead of picking up their car in the morning or renting a hotel room. And I’m not aware of other EVs that have charging integrated into their navigation. And single pedal driving is awesome.

Amazon has crazy innovation in automation and logistics that allow us to get all kinds of shit with same-day, overnight, or two-day shipping. Their rearchitecture to api-driven software was hugely impactful, and they pretty much invented the cloud.

Uber introduced transparent pricing and accountability for taxi drivers to actually provide a good experience for their customers

DoorDash means we can get more than just shitty pizza or Chinese food.

All of these things make life better. The problem is that when people go (or reveal their) crazy we don’t strip their power or influence. The money and fame goes to their head and because they’re rich they don’t need to listen to advice because they begin to think they’re an expert in everything, and their money means they can succeed in new things, such having the ability to recognize whether or not they’re the baddies.

But hey since we’re insulting each other, I’d like to point out that guillotines are pretty big so before you’re actually gonna be able to build one, you’re gonna need to touch grass. In other words, you need to recruit allies if you want to win. I wish the world were more simple, too. But it isn’t.

  • Reproducing is a way to gain power. On paper, saying smart people need to reproduce is a good goal, but we all know that the zip code of a child is a stronger indicator of their success than many other factors. But yeah if you start saying “only x race should reproduce because x race is smarter” then that’s bad. Republicans are anti abortion and contraception so that they can increase power, too. Having more uneducated people keeps them in power.

Its all about power. Making people racist and abusing that racism for their own is benefit is all part of the distraction. Racism is bad especially when it causes divide and conquer. But I also think we should focus on how those things are tools, and look for ways to prevent the goals that those tools enable.

  • I’ve been able to find stuff about his mom’s dad being pro apartheid which is obviously bad but is not “literally the Nazis”. And that his dad claims to say apartheid is bad but said some sus stuff over the years.

Even if he didn’t do the work himself and sounded like a complete idiot in that leaked Twitter meeting, he did objectively advance society. I think the world is better off with things like Tesla Amazon Uber and DoorDash. Musk outlived his usefulness long ago though and is a net negative now to the point of almost undoing all the good he may had had a hand in creating. Society can survive this level of capitalism if it prevented generational wealth. The incompetency compounds and the inevitable conclusion has finally revealed itself.

  • Imagine the leverage you’d need to have to make “the richest person in the world” do a Hitler salute on live TV. Sure, people who tolerate, much less support, Nazi stuff “are Nazis too” but I’m willing to believe that he might not have actual genocidal / thinking races are subhuman / etc beliefs and if he does, it happened recently - way after he became compromised.

To a certain extent, “bad” people succeed in capitalism and become powerful because of inherent personality traits, and a combination of lack of consequences and privilege creating lack of empathy. But to a much greater extent, I think power is handed to people once enough blackmail material is gathered

The pedophilia shit is not a coincidence.

  • That password reset looked to be like step four of something. So it’s a business logic bypass. Still awful of course but slightly more understandable given other ways this vulnerability could have been introduced. The cool part was detecting all the steps completely blackbox because everything was in the Javascript.

There is no excuse for issuing a valid token before mfa succeeds though. That is negligent.

  • And don’t skip the ad nine minutes in, it’s hilarious.

The TLDR is that the founder is a nervous introverted nerd, so even though it looks like it, he wasn’t intentionally lying when he mentioned things that were going to be in the game. Even taking the interviews into account, what really drove the hype train was the price tag and collector’s edition.

Yes we all now know that they are “the good guys” because they went back and added a bunch of free stuff to the game. But unfortunately this type of integrity should never be expected in the future, especially from a publicly traded studio who is legally obligated to do what is profitable (which probably means taking the money and running, or adding micro transactions or other things).

A great comeback story, for sure. And I hope their integrity continues. But keep in mind that Blizzard, Rockstar, and even CDProjektRed have all “fallen”.

  • Your speed is directly tied to how hard you’re pressing the accelerator. You don’t have to guess momentum. If you fully let go the the accelerator, your rate of deceleration is tied to how much you can regen. If the battery is too full, the regen brakes can’t absorb as much (the metaphor I like is imagining a full piece of luggage, it’s hard to jam it from 90 to 100% full) - so instead of slowing the car down and not being able to absorb the energy, it’ll just not slow down as much so it doesn’t give waste energy - - this is actually pretty dangerous, so now there is a setting so that in situations like this, the car will use the real brakes so that you have a consistent maximum deceleration when letting go of the accelerator.

If the computer crashes the screen goes black so you lose the speedometer. It even rarer now and reboots quickly but obviously if you have a first time passenger they’re gonna freak out. The car still has a normal brake, you just never use it since you wanna max the regen. If you use the real brakes, and browse the energy consumption screen it’ll let you know how much battery you’ve wasted by not using regen and, if you have the safety score enabled you will probably get shit on for driving unsafely (if you need to use the real brake this means you are exceeding the capacity of the regen brake so yeah you’re doing something erratic) - in California, this safety score cannot be used against you for insurance rates.

Only the cyber truck is full drive by wire. Idk the extent of it but there should be “mechanical connections” in the other cars. There’s also a mechanical door handle that damages the trim if you use it (tell your passengers how to properly open/close doors)

Don’t test drive unless you have the money to buy, lol. I already kinda knew I was gonna get one (I had just gotten hit by a drunk driver and used it as a catalyst to upgrade since I really wanted the FSD), but I was sold on the instant torque and the one pedal driving. You just envision yourself wanting to pass someone on the freeway, and the other dude doesn’t stand a chance. It’s awesome.
